All women are encouraged to try out for the team regardless of athletic experience. If you think it's something you want to do, then don't be shy. Since so few people have competitive rowing experience, "try-out" means us getting to know your skills and you getting to know the sport. If it's not for you, fine. If it is for you...

note: It's okay if you don't have any rowing experience. For some reason people keep listing canoeing, kayaking, dragon boats, rafting, gigs, dorries, and sailing experience. That is not what I want to know. It's cool and all, but it has nothing to do with competitive crew rowing.
